Cheers to the five years of being roommates, classmates, blockmates, brod and sis, and more importantly, friends. I really think having you with me made this journey all the more meaningful! “My brother shall be my foremost consideration.” All the love and happiness in the world goes out to you. You will be an awesome plastic surgeon.
Tricks of the Trade
Dr. Camilo Roa shows his fellows a practical way to check the patency of a mechanical ventilator.
My Valentine lesson for today is not romantic. It’s vocational. Being an intern in the Philippine General Hospital is quite amazing - seeing rare cases, dealing with the poorest of the poor, learning how to empathize and being mentored by the best doctors in the country. It also has its pitfalls though. Apart from the lack of resources, you have to learn to deal with different personalities - residents, nurses, the paramedical staff. It can get exhausting, and frankly, quite frustrating. I cried today over such frustration. However, at the end of the day, and the only thing that calmed me down, was to remember that everything we do as doctors, is for the patient. For the love of the patient.
